Oral Cancer Screenings
For every patient, as part of their routine dental exam, we provide an oral cancer examination. When detected and treated early, the chances for successful treatment are highest. According to the
American Dental Association almost 42,000 Americans will be diagnosed with oral and throat cancers this year and the 5 year survival of those diagnosed is only slightly more than 64%.
Oral cancer examinations generally consist of a visual inspection of the mouth (your lips, cheek lining, gums, front part of your tongue, floor of the mouth beneath the tongue and the hard palate that makes up the roof of your mouth.) and palpation of the jaw and neck. Regular dental visits improve your chances if anythnig is detected will be caught early and in between visits, it's important to be aware of the
signs and symptoms. If you feel there is any suspicious changes and they do not clear up after two weeks make an appointment to see your dentist.
Early detection means more successful treatments and higher chances for survival.
