Our Sterilization Facilities
To provide the highest level of safety
for our patients, we subscribe to a spore based sterilizer monitoring
service under guidelines recommended by the Center for Disease Control.
Our steam/pressure autoclave sterilization unit is
monitored for maximum effectiveness. A test spore sample is
sterilized and sent to a laboratory for analysis. In this manner, our
instruments are certified to be sterile and clean.
Immediately after use, instruments are
hand cleaned with a strong bactericidal disinfecting agent. They are
placed in an ultrasonic cleansing unit to further remove debris. This Biosonic unit
utilizes high frequency sonic agitation in a germicidal enzymatic
solution to remove any remaining debris.
After a 15 minute
treatment in the
Biosonic, the instruments are washed, dried, wrapped and
placed in our Midmark M11 steam
autoclave sterilization unit. Instruments are subjected to highly
pressurized (115kPA) steam vapor reaching temperatures as high as
121°C (250°F) for 30 minutes.
As can be seen in the photo, the sterilization room
is divided into two spaces. Instruments awaiting sterilization are
stored briefly on the right side shelves and all cleaning processes and
clean instruments are found on the left side of the room. This method
prevents cross-contamination of instruments during our sterilization
process.
