This is the standard biannual (every 6 months) cleaning for patients with healthy gums. Its goal is to prevent future issues by removing plaque and tartar buildup from the surfaces of the teeth and above the gumline, followed by polishing and flossing.
For patients who have not had a cleaning in a long time, this 'heavy-duty' cleaning works to clear away excessive amounts of tartar to allow for a follow-up cleaning and for the dentist to be able to perform a more accurate oral exam.
