Patients with gum disease must be placed under periodontal maintenance, which is an increased frequency of cleanings (every 3-4 months). This allows us to properly monitor your gum health and control the progression of gum disease.
This thorough cleaning is for patients with early or moderate gum disease (gingivitis or periodontitis). The hygienist cleans below the gumline to remove bacteria from the tooth roots and smooth the root surfaces, helping the gums reattach to the teeth.
Arestin is a locally administered, controlled-release antibiotic (minocycline hydrochloride) that is placed directly into infected periodontal pockets after a deep cleaning procedure. It helps fight the bacteria responsible for gum disease.
Laser periodontal therapy is a minimally invasive treatment that uses concentrated light energy to precisely target and remove infected gum tissue and bacteria from periodontal pockets. By vaporizing diseased areas while leaving healthy tissue intact, the laser helps sterilize the site, reduce inflammation, and stimulate the body’s natural healing processes, including tissue regeneration and bone reattachment. Compared to traditional surgical methods, it typically results in less pain, reduced bleeding, and a significantly faster recovery time.
Perio Trays are custom-fitted, prescription dental trays designed to deliver antimicrobial medication directly into the periodontal pockets to treat and control gum disease. By creating a seal that forces the medicine below the gumline, they effectively manage bacterial growth at home, helping to reduce inflammation, bleeding, and pocket depths.
